As a kid, we’ve all wondered how Santa makes all those gifts for children who’ve been nice. In cartoons, we sometimes see Santa hard at work in his workshop with his little elves helping him. But, what if you can make Christmas extra special for your kids by bringing this fantasy into your home?
This is where the ROKR Dream Gift Factory Wooden Music Box comes in. This dreamy music box showcases just how Santa’s magic workshop crafts gifts to fulfill every good kid’s wishlist. You can bring the spirit of Christmas to your family by assembling the ROKR Dream Gift Factory together during the weeks or days leading up to Christmas. Then, you can use it as a cute Christmas decor which will liven up your home with cheerful carols.
Unboxing the ROKR Dream Gift Factory
Checking out the box, I love how festive it is, from the embossed and metallic DIY logo to the metallic stars that run all over the edge of the box. The ROKR Dream Gift Factory is part of their Magic Amusement Series and is a do-it-yourself kit that comes with light, movement, and music. It’s geared towards teens 14 and above.
At the back of the box, there are pictures of the other kits in their Magic Amusement Series. There’s also something like a draft of the ROKR Dream Gift Factory which details its sections. In terms of difficulty, it looks like it will be a challenging kit to build since it has a difficulty rating of 6 stars and a whopping total of 449 pieces.
- Type: Music box
- Assembled Size: 9.6*6.4*10.08" (24.4*16.3*25.6cm)
- Estimated Assembly Time: ~12 Hours
- Pieces: 449 PCS
- Wood Boards: 11 PCS
The first thing you’ll see upon opening the box is the assembly instruction. It’s very easy to understand since it has labels for each part, notes, and easy to understand drawings. Next, there’s a big chunk of wooden boards packed with a little sandpaper. On a side note, is it just me who loves the smell of laser cut wood? I’ve found myself taking the smell in a few times because I find it so delightful.
The colors of the wooden parts are amazing. I can already see that this kit has a lot of small bits. I’m hoping that they’ve added some spare parts like with their other products just in case I break some of them.
For the ROKR Dream Gift Factory, we get a lot of plastic bits as well. Then, there’s a black strip which I’m assuming is for the conveyor belt. You’ll also find a small file, the wiring for the lights, some components for the rotating bits, and, surprisingly, some wax.
I wasn’t actually expecting the kit to have some wax even if the assembly instructions said that it will be included. Usually, they’re not able to ship this kind of material due to customs restrictions. Since this is the case for most of their kits, I’ve already invested in wood balsam which works great for parts like the cogs. Nonetheless, this is a nice surprise.
Moving on, you’ll also get a screwdriver, some screws, and a tool to cut the plastic bits off. Finally, there’s the lamp panel, circuit board, and loudspeaker.
Just to give you a heads up, the ROKR Dream Gift Factory isn’t battery-powered. Instead, you’ll need to prepare a Type-C power cable and a USB adaptor to power it. These aren’t included in the kit.
Designs and Features
The ROKR Dream Gift Factory Tower is a beautifully crafted kit with charming designs and thoughtful features that will make it your favorite Christmas piece.
- High-Quality Paint Work- Multicolored silk screen printing is used to give this kit a playful retro charm that will catch the eye of anyone who sees it.
- One-Touch Sound and Light Effects - A single tap on the front button will start the music, light, and factory function. Tap again or leave idle for 10 minutes to enable lights-only mode. Long press to power off the device entirely.

Inclusions
One of the reasons why I love Robotime kits is that their boxes pretty much have everything you need to build the kit. Aside from the wax which is a bit of a hit or miss due to customs restrictions, I’m very satisfied with their kits’ inclusions.
I have a tendency to break some of the more fragile pieces so it’s great that ROKR includes spare parts for the more delicate bits. You can also contact their customer support for a parts replacement service. The parts you broke can be replaced for free. You just need to pay for shipping. However, if you’re like me and you’re impatient, PVA glue is your ally.
The only extra thing that I needed for this build that wasn’t included in the box is the Type-C power cable that’s needed to power it. Pretty much most of the Android smartphones use this cable so it’s not hard to find.
Wooden Boards
All of the sheets are labeled with letters and numbers which you can cross reference with the assembly instructions for easy building. The quality of the woods and the prints are usually really good when it comes to ROKR kits. However, I struggled a little bit with the C sheet because it’s hard to make out the black writing against the dark brown coloring of the wood. What I did was just look at the shape of the parts needed in the instructions for the C sheet.
Black numbered text is difficult to read on C sheet
Meanwhile, with the L sheet, it was difficult to make out which part was which because they’re really close together. I got so confused that I accidentally left out one of the toys which was supposed to go on the conveyor belt.
Assembly
Building the base went smoothly since the pieces snapped into place really well. The cogs, mechanisms, and the board went nicely together. Just pay extra attention to the motherboard and which way the connections go. You’ll need to apply a little bit of force until they click in.
On the other hand, the top of the factory was tricky to assemble because it felt somewhat flimsy. That said, just trust the process because it will all come together. The build has some sort of clips in various places that will hold the whole thing together.
The Christmas tree is a joy to put together with all the cute decorations. I can’t say the same for the top bit of the tree though. There was this paper that I was trying to wrap around it. It had little hooks that it needed to snap in and its end had to be slid in. I found these challenging.
When building the ROKR Dream Gift Factory, there are some components that are inside other bits. I missed one when I was building the sign so be extra careful.
Some More Tips to Help with the Assembly
When putting the toys on the conveyor belt, the part of the toys which attach to the conveyor belt have teeth. Start with one of the teeth first and slide the other teeth in to slot them in.
Putting the toys on the conveyor belt
When working on the rim around the Christmas tree, my advice is to start from the middle and gently press in the rest of it.
Put a lot of wax on the door because it is a little stiff. You can use some cotton buds to dab some wax in if it’s still stiff once assembled.
Final Thoughts
Though the ROKR Dream Gift Factory was challenging, it does come together nicely in the end. I’m a scatterbrain and if I was able to build this, anybody can do it as well. Their website said that assembly will take about 12 hours and I did mine in 13. Not too bad, I think.
I also think that this kit is brilliant because it has everything you need for its assembly. Plus, it looks marvelous once completed because of all the details you can explore.
My only criticism is that the parts that are showing are only printed on one side. For example, the back of the fully assembled factory has so many wonderful details but then you have toys on the conveyor belt which only have a plain wooden back. If not with paint, they could have added some stickers. The same goes for the signs as well as the top. I know that they’re not really seen that much but it would have been nicer if they considered both sides.
Toys on the conveyor belt have no paint on the back
Overall, the ROKR Dream Gift Factory is definitely worth taking up the challenge and it’s worth the time. It’s something that you can be proud of when you take it out every Christmas or even display year-round.
